Topics

The 6th European Health Parliament will address the following topics:

Telemedicine and Patient-centred Care

As patients avoid hospitals during the COVID-19 crisis and many traditional methods of care delivery have been stopped, care delivery needs to innovate to avoid serious health complications from denied access to care. This has accelerated a wider trend within healthcare to build solutions that are more patient-centred, more flexible and more accessible. How can we build infrastructure, awareness and capacity which will facilitate safe and secure access to diagnosis, treatment and support in critical therapeutic areas such as cancer and mental health?

European Health Data Co-operation

In the wake of a global public health crisis, Europe needs to offer data driven solutions which move beyond national boundaries. Beyond this, the success of the digital health revolution within Europe will be built on robust, secure and fair data co-operation which can lead to more effective evidence-based solutions and drive health innovations in Europe. With the introduction of the European Health Data Space, European cancer networks and other initiatives, there is a unique opportunity to propose policy solutions which carve out how this co-operation should look.

Resilient Supply Chains

In the wake of COVID, unilateral actions threatened access to critical medicines and PPE and highlighted the need for a closer cooperation between EU and Member States. By understanding the complexities of integrated supply chains, we can build on past successes and identify gaps to safeguard patient access in the sustainable supply chains of the future. How can the EU preserve the benefits of an open economy and promote resilient supply chains? How can digitalisation and multilateral coordination and cooperation ensure that EU supply chains hold environmental and financial sustainability at their core?

Health and the Green Transition

Recovery post-COVID should hold the environment at its core and health is at the centre of this conversation. Environmental sustainability means having healthy people on a healthy planet. Environmental concerns such as pollution, adverse weather conditions and others can exacerbate pre-existing health inequalities. This is also part of a systemic shift from reactive to preventative models of care. Now is the time to introduce change which helps protect both the planet and its citizens. How can we help address the connection between health and the environment and invest in sustainable healthcare futures?

Healthy Economies

The Corona Pandemic has underlined more than ever the intimate connection between health and a sustainable economy. A critical milestone for social and economic recovery will be fast and equitable access to an effective vaccine. How can Europe tackle issues such as unilateral approaches to access, vaccine hesitancy and production upscaling to ensure that this milestone is reached as quickly as possible? Beyond the vaccine, how can Europe ensure that economic recovery post-COVID emphasises the long-term health and wealth of citizens just as healthy citizens will drive sustainable economic growth?

Prior to the start of a new edition the Partners, in cooperation with the European Commission, decide on the five themes for the EHP committees. This is done to ensure that each edition addresses the most pressing EU health priorities of that moment.
